Under the cruel ministrations of its Queen, the Kingdom of D’Land is in peril. With King Harrison away in foreign lands and neighboring Kingdoms unwilling to intervene, there is no one to protect the people from poverty, harsh punishment, and unreasonable rules of law – except for the Band of Brothers. Struggling with the death of her mother and the legendary Syphon powers she inherited, seventeen year old Dru wants nothing more than to escape her old life and join the motley crew of ruffians, pilfering from the rich to feed the poor and pay their taxes.
She’s able to do just that disguised as a lad, and even when her nature is discovered, nothing changes – except for the way her friend Hawkin treats her. But Dru’s new world is overturned when she and the Brothers seize the treasures of a Prince who threatens to reveal her identity. Together, Dru and her chosen family must find a way to reclaim her destiny and bring balance to the Kingdom. If not, there may be no hope left for anyone.
I am a sucker for a good cover I know don't judge a book by its cover blah blah blah but honesty its the first thing that catches your eye and gets you to read the jacket. I was pleasantly suprised when this little gem landed in my inbox. The blurb looked interesting so I thought I would give it a go.
Colour me suprised I loved it. It had a Robin Hood meets the Red Queen kind of feel to it. I love strong female characters and Dru is that; she can take care of herself and out shoot the boys. I like that her character isn't one of those heroines that newly discover they have powers and thinks they are all bad ass and just puts everyone in danger with their impulsive and reckless descions. She is a badass but she is also soft and shows care and compassion to those she loves and cares about. She is one of the guys and has earned their trust and respect.
LOVE TRIANGLE of course there is it wouldn't be a YA novel without one. I love it. I won't tell you who i'm routing for I will let you decide for yourself.
I really enjoyed this book! I feel like its been a really long time since I truely enjoyed a book and its lead chararcters. I felt that although I was a little slow in getting into the book ( I only have a 45min lunch and I talk a lot ) Once I focused on the book and not everything around me I was fully emursed. I thought the characters were interesting and well thought out. I found the diolgue whitty at times I found myself laughingh out loud.
I can't wait to see what happens next, I am really looking forward to see where Dana Claire takes thease chararcters
I gave this a 4 out of 5 star
